Functional Medicine investigates the multiple facets of a patient’s health profile. It identifies problems and puts together an integral, evidence-based, plan that targets symptoms as well as their underlying causes.
The goal of Functional Medicine is to identify the best set of interventions needed to improve your health. These interventions include personalised nutrition plans, supplements and botanicals, stress management, detoxification and lifestyle changes, among other approaches.
Because of this, we believe that optimal health is not only possible, it is within our grasp.
The central principle behind our Functional Medicine approach is simple: each patient is different and has a unique set of underlying problems that require a personalised treatment.
When you come to us for help, we listen and we treat your problem.
However, we go a few steps further…
We investigate the multiple facets of your health profile.
Through the use of advanced diagnostic testing, we identify the systems that are failing.
Finally, we implement an integral, evidence-based, plan that targets symptoms & underlying causes.

The Australian Centre for Functional Medicine is unique in its comprehensive approach to health. It bridges multiple branches of traditional medicine with key issues that affect your health, such as environmental factors, your own body chemistry and lifestyle choices.
Each ailment is not an independent occurrence. Rather, it is linked to multiple mechanisms in your body that are not functioning optimally.
A patient comes with complaints of chronic fatigue and cognitive decline (impaired judgement, forgetfulness, poor motor coordination), and is following a drug regimen recommended by a physician.
Drugs are not working well and have side effects.
Yes…and in our centre, we have successfully tested and managed patients with these conditions using a holistic approach that merges traditional medical treatments with current research linking gut microbes and the brain.
Gut health is only one contributing factor to the cause of chronic fatigue, and patients tend to rely on short-term solutions such as stimulants like sugar or coffee in order to continue functioning. In our centre patients receive treatments that improve their gut microbiota, which, in turn, exerts beneficial and long-lasting effects on their health.
Our team offers two options of treatment. In person (South Perth) appointments or, for remote locations, we offer video calls.
30-minute in-house appointment with one of our practitioners, looking at your health, and family history to build your extensive health profile. This appointment may also be conducted by one of our nurse practitioners.
During a 30-minute assessment, your practitioner will go over your intake forms including body systems analysis, chief complaints, medical history, stress tests, environment exposure and your goals.
30-minute in-house presentation of your body systems analysis including recommendations for lab testing. Experience the most comprehensive and advanced lab testing available. For tests that are done at home, our patient care co-ordinators will walk you through step-by-step instructions.
A 30-minute assessment is designed to review all lab testing, create a report of findings, create your individualised protocol and a personalised nutrition plan focusing on high-quality, nutrient-dense foods to address imbalances.
Your comprehensive appointment with your practitioner provides time to present the report of findings, review your personalised plan, prioritise your protocol, discuss next steps on your journey, and establish a process for on-going support.
Four weeks after your case review appointment, you will have a 30-minute follow-up to assess how your diet modifications are going and review initial findings and original symptoms. Further individualisation of diet is done at this point.
Eight weeks after your case review appointment, we schedule a 30-minute follow-up with your practitioner to review your re-test lab results and discuss further individualisation of your treatment plan.
As per “In-House”, however Zoom and video calls are available for remote or national patients outside of Perth, WA
