Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a complex condition that affects your colon. IBS is common globally, impacting up to 15% of the world’s population. In Australia, as many as one in five adults experience IBS-related symptoms at some point in their lives. The condition is also more common in women, who are twice as likely to be affected than men.

IBS can significantly impact your health, impairing your everyday functioning, limiting your productivity, and affecting other areas of your well-being. It is estimated people with IBS are three times more likely to develop depression or anxiety. However, with the correct diagnosis and personalised treatment from AUSCFM, you will be on your way to better health.

Common Symptoms

  • Abdominal cramps and pain
  • Bloating and gas
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a discomforting medical condition in which stomach acid continually flows back into the oesophagus. This stubborn reflux stems from a weakened lower oesophageal sphincter, which typically serves as a natural barrier, locking away stomach contents. When this valve relaxes unexpectedly, it sets the stage for an unwanted oesophageal encounter with stomach acids.

At AUSCFM, our doctors possess the skills and knowledge to reveal the underlying causes of your GERD while restoring essential stomach acids, enzymes, and vital nutrients to enhance digestion. Additionally, we focus on reinstating your beneficial bacteria and rejuvenating the mucosal lining for optimal gut health.

Common Symptoms

  • Heartburn or indigestion
  • Problems swallowing
  • Sore throat
  • Chest pain
  • Coughing

SIBO, or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, is a condition where excessive or altered bacteria invade your small intestine, wreaking havoc on its structure and functionality. This invasion disrupts digestion and absorption of essential nutrients and damages the cells lining this crucial part of your digestive system, potentially leading to the dreaded “leaky gut” phenomenon.

Experience the power of natural and pharmaceutical methods as you work with AUSCFM to conquer SIBO. Through personalised nutrition strategies, we help to free unwanted intruders and improve your overall gut health.

Common Symptoms

  • Bloating and abdominal distention
  • Abdominal pain/discomfort
  • Gas and belching
  • Constipation

Your gut is a fascinating world housing trillions of microorganisms and beneficial flora. However, sometimes parasites and unwanted organisms can reside within you, wreaking havoc on your health. These unwelcome guests are surprisingly common around the globe, especially in developing nations where they rank as a leading cause of illness. From causing gastrointestinal distress to invading your skin, hair, blood, and brain, parasites know no bounds!

AUSCFM doctors use advanced medical technology, with innovative testing techniques to pinpoint parasites and assess their impact on your wellbeing. With a tailored health plan, we can help diminish their presence, restore beneficial flora, and fortify gut integrity to optimise your health.

Sometimes known as “leaky gut,” intestinal permeability is the inflammation and deterioration of your intestinal lining. Increased intestinal permeability has been linked to other health issues, such as gluten intolerance and Coeliac disease. Potential triggers can include disrupted microbiomes, parasites, excess bacteria, and fungi lurking within your gastrointestinal tract.

The good news is, this condition can be reversed with the help of AUSCFM. Through advanced diagnostic testing, we can identify your condition, understand the possible causes, and develop a personalised treatment plan to get your health back on track.

Diverticular disease is a condition impacting your large intestine (colon) that consists of two magnetic components: diverticulosis and diverticulitis. At the heart of this condition lie diverticula – pockets or bulges that form within the walls of your colon. To understand this condition, consider the inner tube of a bicycle tyre; if you add too much air, bubbles can form where the rubber is weakest. Similarly, when pressure increases within your colon, pockets or bulges (diverticula), can form in weakened areas of your colon walls.

AUSCFM takes a comprehensive approach to the treatment of diverticular disease, using state-of-the-art testing and evidence-based therapies. Not only do we consider the symptoms and problems you report, but we also investigate potential issues you may not be aware of. This helps us build a complete picture of your pathology so we can develop a personalised treatment plan to meet your unique needs.

Diverticulosis Common Symptoms

  • Tenderness over the affected area
  • Mild abdominal cramps
  • Swelling or bloating
  • Constipation

Diverticulitis Common Symptoms

  • Pain, tenderness, or sensitivity in the left lower side of your abdomen
  • Cramps in the lower abdomen
  • Diarrhoea (less common)
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Fever or chills
  • Constipation

Crohn’s disease is a persistent ailment characterised by inflammation impacting the entire digestive pathway, resulting in diverse and occasional symptoms. This chronic condition forms one part of the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) pair, accompanied by ulcerative colitis – an autoimmune disorder causing inflammation and ulcer formation in your colon’s inner lining. Together, they constitute a complex duo in the realm of gastrointestinal health. If suspected, your AUSCFM doctor may prescribe any or all the tests listed below to get to the root of the problem and tailor a treatment to meet your needs.

Blood test: This confirms the presence of abnormal antibodies, inflammation, vitamin deficiencies, and more.

Stool test: This helps rule out digestive issues or infections.

Intestinal endoscopy: This procedure is generally considered the more accurate method for diagnosing Crohn’s.

Bowel imaging: CT or MRI scans can detect the presence of inflammation, fistulae, or abnormal fluids.

Crohn’s Disease Common Symptoms

  • Weight loss/loss of appetite
  • Sores in the mouth
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Diarrhoea
  • Cramping
  • Urgency
